How does a reverse osmosis system work?
An RO system pushes water through a series of filters — typically a sediment pre-filter, a carbon filter, the RO membrane, and a carbon post-filter. The membrane is the key stage: it has pores so small that dissolved solids, chemicals, and microorganisms can't pass through. Clean water goes to your faucet; contaminants are flushed down the drain.
Does reverse osmosis waste water?
Traditional RO systems produce about 3–4 gallons of reject water for every gallon of purified water. Modern high-efficiency systems with permeate pumps can reduce this to a 1:1 ratio or better. We can discuss efficiency options during your consultation.
How often do RO filters need to be changed?
Pre-filters and post-filters should be changed every 6–12 months. The RO membrane itself typically lasts 2–3 years. We offer a filter swap service where we track your schedule and reach out when it's time — so you don't have to remember.
Does an RO system remove healthy minerals too?
Yes, RO removes minerals along with contaminants. Most of the minerals your body needs come from food, not water — but if you're concerned, we can add a remineralization stage that puts calcium and magnesium back into the water after filtration for taste and pH balance.
